Pedra Sina Residence: Residency with Performance on Madeira Island

Residency with performance
Some of the monthly residencies of 2013 will be dedicated to artists performing with new media sonic (music) and visual art. The resident artists of those months will be forming the main part of a performance-program, which will be open to a public audience and take place in different magnificent locations around Madeira.

To participate in a residency with performance one should be able to perform 2 sets of 10 to 60 minutes each. Any type of acts within new media (electronic/digital) art are welcome but especially favored are projects exploring the following.
  • New electronic tools or methods of using such.
  • Ways of integrating sound/music with visual art (or opposite).
  • Compositional/sensory aspects of art.
For more information on the objectives please read the curatorial notes. Apart from the above the structure and application process of performance-oriented residencies are the same as for the general residencies.

General Residency

Pedra Sina Residence celebrates free research and experimentation and residencies are curated in a likewise free manner. Currently an eclectic mix of projects are hosted but in the future the activities will be directed more towards new media art.

Residencies at Pedra Sina Residence are self-directed. All events and activities at the residence are arranged in community with other resident artists or local organizations that are involved with the residence. This also applies to living arrangements such as cooking meals. Pedra Sina Residence offers to the resident artists accommodation, workspaces and access to a kitchen stocked on basic vegetarian foods (one would not have to spend money on food). The management of the residence will offer assistance and support and there is also a little community around the residence - local artists and people with an interest in art, who are happy to get involved in projects in relation to Madeira Island.

Residencies are usually planned on a monthly basis and artists may stay for 2 weeks and up to the whole month. Between 3 and 5 artists may be invited for each residency period. http://www.pedrasina.org/Application.aspx
