Call for Submissions: 1708 Gallery Feed Biennial

1708 Gallery invites artists to submit work for the third 1708 Gallery Feed Biennial. This international juried exhibition is open to any professional or graduate student artist working in any medium. 1708 Gallery is a non-profit contemporary art space in Richmond, Virginia whose mission is to expand the understanding, development, and appreciation of contemporary art by giving exposure to both emerging and established artists. This exhibition will feature multiple works by the top 5 entries as selected by the jurors. Each of the 5 finalists will receive a $1000 honorarium.

The jurors are Sarah Eckhardt, Assistant Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, VA and Corin Hewitt, Assistant Professor, Sculpture and Extended Media, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA.

ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY INFORMATION

FEED is an open call to any professional or graduate student artist in any medium and is open to national and international artists. Artists currently enrolled in undergraduate art programs are not eligible.

The jurors will select work to be exhibited from the work submitted. All work submitted must be available for exhibition from the last week in August 2013 to the last week in October 2013. All work must be received ready for installation with proper hanging devices attached and instructions where necessary. 1708 Gallery reserves the right to refuse any work that is improperly presented or unsafe to hang. Any special installation requirements must be discussed with gallery staff in advance.

All work submitted must fit through a 4ft x 7ft opening.

All work selected for FEED 2013 will be available for purchase while it is on exhibit at 1708 Gallery unless otherwise requested by the artist. 1708 pays artists 65% of the sale price of any work sold during the exhibition and retains a 35% commission on sold work.

1708 Gallery will provide insurance for work within the gallery for 65% of the stated retail value of the work covering loss, theft, or damage due to malicious intent.

Artists are responsible for the cost and arrangement of shipping artwork (delivery and pick-up) to and from 1708 Gallery.

ENTRY FEES

$30 for 5 images, payable through online registration (below) via credit card or paypal. Entry fees will be used toward juror honorariums, finalist awards, and FEED exhibition costs.

IMAGE REQUIREMENTS

Clearly identify the images using the following filename format:

Lastname_Firstname_01.jpg, Lastname_Firstname_02.jpg, etc.

JPEGs should be 72dpi and between 1500 and 2000 pixels on the longest dimension. Files should be no more than 1.5 megabytes each.

Video work should be submitted via links to YouTube, Vimeo or a personal website. If your work is not viewable online, please mail a DVD to 1708 at the address provided in the online submission form.

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS


The online submission form below requires that you submit 5 images and a brief 150 word (or less) statement about your work. The jurors will only see your images and this statement. If selected as a semi-finalist, 1708 Gallery will contact you for additional materials including more images of your work, a complete resume/CV, a formal artist statement, and any other press clippings or collateral material you wish to include for the jurors to review.
