Watershed’s residencies are the heart of our mission, which is to provide time and space for serious artists to work in clay.  We invite you to join a group of your peers to explore new ideas, make new work, step out of your daily routine;  to collaborate and develop lasting connections with fellow clay makers. We offer six, two-week sessions every summer and one six-week fall residency.  Each residency is organized with spaces available for any artist to apply.
HOUSING: The basic residency fee includes dorm housing with shared bathrooms, meals and studio space.  Materials and firings are paid for separately.  Private and shared cabin space is available at an extra cost, with or without a private bath.  Space is available on a first come, first served basis.
Summer 2013 residency fee: $1425.
No Application Deadline. Click here to apply.

Assistantship

Summer assistantships are awarded to applicants in need of financial aid.  At least two positions are available per session.  The residency fee, which includes meals, housing and studio space, is reduced in exchange for work hours.  Materials and firings are paid for separately.  2013

Benefits include:
  • housing
  • all meals
  • a large studio, materials and firing
  • opportunities to sell work at events and invitations to exhibit in group shows
  • Salad Days Artist plates and other works will be featured in Watershed print and on-line publications, and local and regional advertisements and press.

Juried Kiln God Residency

Our Kiln God Residency is competitive juried and merit-based. Full or partial funding is awarded by an annual review committee of ceramics professionals. Funding is provided through annual and endowed contributions  from collectors, artists, and corporations to Watershed’s Kiln God program.  These are not cash awards.  The funding covers only residency fee-related items: residency fee, dorm housing, meals, studio, and dry Watershed earthenware clay you harvest from the clay hill.  Award recipients are still responsible for housing upgrades, travel expenses, materials, firings, and packing/shipping of work.
All artists are eligible to apply for funding, regardless of age, experience, or media/discipline.
Recipients of funded residencies are not eligible for funding again for three summers following their award and may only be funded a total of two times.
Application Deadline:  April 1, 2013.  Click here to apply now.

Pre-Session Work Week

A great introduction to the Watershed experience!!  Pre-Session is an opportunity to trade labor for time and space at Watershed.  In exchange for FREE studio, room and board, artists work six hours each day for Watershed, repairing and cleaning studios, equipment and residences.  Materials and firing costs are not included and are paid for separately.
Space is available on a first come, first served basis. 2013 dates: May 27-June 7.
No Application Deadline.  Click here to apply now.

Fall Residency

This six-week residency, September 4 – October 18, provides ample time to explore new ideas and produce a body of work.  A panel of ceramics professionals will select eight artists forming a dynamic environment ripe for creative interaction and self-directed exploration. This is a unique opportunity for artists to immerse themselves in studio, free of the distractions of their usual environment while taking advantage of our extensive facilities.
Fall Residency Fee: $2,500 (includes housing and studio)  Meals are cooked family style in our renovated kitchen.  Materials and firing fees are assessed per person at the end of the residency.
