About the judges
For more than a decade, Drs. Carol Mickett and Robert Stackhouse have worked collaboratively
to create commissioned works of large-scale sculpture, paintings and prints. Working in tandem
on every detail together takes them out of the box, so to speak, and encourages them to try
things that neither would try alone. Mickett’s background is in philosophy, film radio, poetry
and theater while Stackhouse brings traditional visual arts to the table. His individual work is a
part of permanent collections at museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art,
The National Gallery of Australia, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Most recently, the Hunter
Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, TN commissioned the duo, and the result was Place
In the Woods, 2010. Currently, the pair is working on a commission for Florida’s Art in State
Building project of five paintings in their Gulf of Mexico series.
