Michael Onken is associate professor emeritus of painting and drawing at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He retired in 2002 after teaching for 34 years in the School of Art and Design. An exhibition of his work is currently on display through May 1 at the Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Onken earned a Master of Arts degree from Northern Illinois University in 1966

Originally founded as the Wichita Art Association in 1920, The Wichita Center for the Arts is the area’s oldest and most comprehensive visual and performing arts organization. For more than 90 years the Center has made art and art education available to the citizens of Wichita and the surrounding communities.
