SEA’s mission is to provide practical resources to help aspiring artists gain the entrepreneurial knowledge and skills needed to establish and maintain a career as an independent artist.
The focus of SEA is on the business of art. SEA was created with the idea that more artists will succeed if they have business skills, knowledge, resources, and contacts. Through the artist-led conferences, SEA helps artists turn their passion into a living. SEA is for emerging and mid-career artists, and creative professionals, as well as college and serious high school students.
Many visual, performing, and literary artists struggle to make a career out of doing what they love. Often, the missing ingredient is an understanding of simple business practices that can help the artist better promote, manage and finance his or her efforts. Students in particular, both college and high school, need to be made aware of opportunities to create sustainable careers as arts entrepreneurs.
The arts are also a key ingredient of creating vibrant communities where people want to live and establish businesses and community leaders recognize the importance of this critical piece in economic development.
About the Iron Pour and Reception

Jim Gallucci, Sculptor, along with the Tri-State Sculptor’s Association will host an Iron Pour at the studio located at 499 Industrial Avenue, Greensboro.

An IRON POUR is literally the pour of molten iron into molds.This is a
unique opportunity for artists because of the complexity of the process.
In the last 50 years artists have rediscovered how to melt iron on a
small scale. For example, artists do 25- 50 lbs. pours, compared to
industry (auto, steel) that does 2-3 tons at a time.The process of melting the metal requires a cupola type furnace. Iron, limestone and coke or brickets are dropped into the top of a smoke stack like furnace (cupola). When the furnace is full of molten iron (2700 F) the furnace is tapped and out comes molten iron. It is then caught with a ladle and the taken to the individual molds and poured. There will be plenty of sparks, smoke and excitement.
The molds are generally made of sand or ceramic shell. The material has to be able to take the high temperatures during the pouring process.
Carl Billingsley and Hanna Jubran are “master casters” of iron from East Carolina University and have done this all over the world. They will be bringing the cupola and equipment. I will supply the iron and the participates can bring their already made molds or they can design an open face casting from blocks of bonded sand.
The set up will begin Thursday and on Friday morning the fires will be lit….
This will go all day until the last mold is poured.
