Juror: Chris Valle was born in Ocala, Florida in 1976. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Florida in 2002. Valle’s paintings combine both representation and abstraction, using classical and experimental approaches. Conceptually, Valle's work explores how the affect of entertainment content depicting sexual norms, stereotypes and sexual roles has a profound influence on our perceptions about sex and body image. Television pretends to reflect our realities as if it were a mirror; however it does not give us a pure reflection. We are shown things from elsewhere only in an already established, ready-made version: there is no place for our own judgment, and we are unable to resist simply accepting, as reality, the images placed before us. Valle's paintings are a social commentary about our media-manipulated society that has constructed a culture of sexual exploitation and commodification.
Valle’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in galleries and museums in over 130 exhibitions, including the major art cities of New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, and Dallas as well as internationally with exhibits in Italy, Germany, and London. This also includes 15 solo-exhibitions in the past 14 years. His work is in numerous collections, most notably the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum, the Sienna Art Institute Library (Italy) and the HESS Corporation.
Highlights of recent exhibitions include: BEST OF SHOW AWARD in Perspective: Fresh Look at Contemporary Painting & Drawing, Hillyer Art Space, Washington D.C., a Benefactor Award, 28th Annual Northern National Art Competition, Nicolet College Art Gallery, Rhinelander, WI; Remedy, a National Juried Exhibition at Gallery 180 of The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago; and Contempor Arte 2010 at the Galleria d'arte Mentana in Florence, Italy; selection into the Royal Society of Portrait Painter’s “Open Exhibition” at the Mall Galleries in London; Object Abuse at Spinach in London; and Anonymous Drawings Project in Berlin, Germany.
