Albany, NY
From August 30 to September 23, 2016, Albany Center Gallery will host a three-person exhibition titled “If This, Then That,” with an artists’ reception to be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on September 2, 2016.
From imaginative sculptures to geometric and pop-art like collages, the works by Kyle Avery, Jenny Hutchinson, and Christine Snyder abound with eye-catching colors and whimsical imagery in playful, vibrant interpretations and designs.
“If This, Then That” represents three different takes on the energetic and inspiring artistic process. Whether the process begins with an an image from a magazine, the evolution of a doodle, or the physical movement of creation, these artists embody many moments of cause and effect. Avery composes collages of abstract and representational images that together build playful associations in the viewer’s eye. Hutchinson’s work emerges out of life-drawing forms and, through an optical evolution, constructs new non-objective narratives. Similarly, Snyder’s sculptures and drawings could be pieces in a Technicolor dreamscape that resemble both the animate and the inanimate.
Avery earned a BFA from Sage College of Albany, and then an MFA from the University at Albany. His work is included in the permanent collection at the University Art Museum.
Hutchinson received an MFA from Clemson University following her BFA from Plattsburgh State. Hutchinson works as the Museum Educator at The Hyde Collection and as an adjunct professor of art at SUNY Adirondack.
Snyder received a BFA for photography and relief printmaking with a minor in art history from The College of Saint Rose. She is a recent graduate of the MFA program at UAlbany.
