Scottish Sculpture Workshop is offering an opportunity to join our ceramics studio with a residency work-exchange programme for an experienced BA/MA graduate in ceramics. The residency is two months in duration during Spring/Summer 2015 (preferred dates May/June, but may be flexible).
The residency offers a ceramic artist the opportunity to develop their portfolio of work with critical and curatorial support, as well as the experience of running studio facilities, outreach workshop days and assisting in the development of the ceramcis facilities. We are looking for an individual who has a particular interest in alternative firing practices and glaze applications.
The residency offers:
A stipend of £200/month · Self-catering accommodation · Use of facilities · Up to six firings of the ceramics kiln (further firings will be charged at cost)
In return the graduate resident would be expected to:
Dedicate 16 hours per week towards the smooth running of the ceramics studio, working alongside our Ceramics Technician · Develop studio practice and a new body of work · Look after the ceramic studio (with assistance from the SSW Senior Technician) · Set-up a community/outreach day
Residents will need to provide their own materials (available through SSW at cost). Assistance will be given to find an external exhibition venue for the work created while in residence.
Facilities: As well as a large communal studio space the ceramic studio has a medium and small kiln, as well as access to a large kiln in the Foundry. There is one electric wheel and two paddle wheels, a glaze area, and SSW is in the process of developing a glaze booth.
Deadlines for applications: 5pm 26 February 2015.
To apply please send a cover letter, short statement regarding your work, a digital portfolio or web link, an up to date CV and complete the Residency Application Cover Sheet. The application can be downloaded from our website under ‘Residency Application’
