CALL FOR ENTRIES: North, South, East, and West (NSEW): What Grew Us


Eric Snyder, Gallery Director at Middle Tennessee State University, is working with Laura Brake, a senior in MTSU's ceramics program and a member of and of their Student Gallery Committee (SGC), seek participants in an exhibit Laura is curating in May 2014.

She's planning a show at MTSU at the end of the spring semester and wants to invite art departments and art students from . Her desire for this exhibit, to be titled North, South, East, and West (NSEW): What Grew Us is to showcase the undergraduate programs of schools across the United States. Below is a small description of what she is hoping to accomplish with this effort.

"North, South, East, and West a.k.a. N.S.E.W. will be an exhibit of artistic talent at the collegiate level that reaches across the United States. It will be a showcase of roots, where one has come from and how that specific place has shaped their life as an artist. The show will be open to all years of undergraduate students in art schools and seeks to showcase a variety of talent in different regions of the United States. To participate students may choose any 2D or 3D medium, i.e. painting, video, ceramics, sculpture, installation, printmaking, multi-media, graphic design, photography, or drawing." There is also NO entry fee.

This national exhibition will be a showcase of roots, where one has come from and how that specific place has shaped their life as an artist. The exhibition will be held at the Todd Art Gallery from May 12 – May 29, 2014. The show will be open to all years of undergraduate students in art schools and seeks to showcase a variety of talent in different regions of the United States. Any art form is accepted for consideration and all interpretations of the theme will be considered. 
ELIGIBILITY AND RESTRICTIONS
The competition is open only to undergraduate artists enrolled in an art program in the United States. All forms of painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, ceramics, digital and installation art, graphics, video, etc. are eligible. Wall mounted works must not exceed 3’x3’. Sculptural work must not exceed a space of 3’x3’x3’. 
ENTRY FEES
There is NO entry fee for works entered. Artists may enter up to three works, with no more than 2 photos for each individual work. Sculptors may provide one additional view per artwork.
Artists accepted to exhibit will not be charged additional fees of any kind. Works will be juried by the Student Gallery Committee of MTSU.
IMAGE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
All entries are via Submittable.com. 
Submissions must be in JPG format, 300 DPI, no larger than 8x10”. Files must read as such:
Last Name_Title of Piece_Year Created
Ex. Smith_Primary_2013 or Smith_Primary_Detail_2013
Artists must also send an image list with their entries, which includes the following information:

*Name and Email of Artist
*Title
*Materials
*Size
*Year
*School Attended
*A short paragraph describing how their work fits into the theme of the show.

Artists may enter up to three works, with no more than 2 photos for each individual work. Sculptors may provide one additional view per artwork.
DEADLINE & APPLICATION
Entries must be submitted by April 1. 2014.

NOTIFICATION
Artists will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance no later than April 7, 2014.
Artworks selected must be received by Monday April 28, 2014.
The artist must provide shipping costs of artwork to Todd Gallery; however, the Todd Gallery will pay return-shipping fees in full.
