JUROR : IAN BERRYIan Berry is Associate Director for Curatorial Affairs and Curator at The Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College. He received his B.A. in Art History from the University at Albany and his M.A. from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College. Before coming to Skidmore Ian served as Assistant Curator at the Williams College Museum of Art. A specialist in contemporary art, he has organized several exhibitions for the Tang Museum including projects that combine antique maps, scientific equipment, Rube Goldberg cartoons, and Shaker furniture with new works of international contemporary art. His recent solo artist projects at the Tang have featured artists such as Paul Henry Ramirez, Nayland Blake, Jim Hodges, and Alyson Shotz. Among his many publications, Ian is co-editor of the recent catalogue, "Kara Walker: Narratives of a Negress," co-published by MIT Press. As Lecturer in Art History, Ian teaches the seminar course, Inside the Museum, which serves as an introduction to the history, theory, and practice of the modern museum.

ENTRY
Each artist may submit up to three images. No artwork may exceed 40” in any dimension, including frame or installation requirements. Images must be submitted on a CD in JPEG format at 300 dpi, about 4” x 6” and in the correct orientation for the work. Please label each file with the artist’s last name, entry number and artwork title. For example: “Smith, # 1, Place.” No slides will be accepted. Any work that does not match the digital image in quality or content will be rejected from the exhibition. All work must be framed under plexiglass and must be wired for hanging.


ELIGIBILITY
All U.S. artists at least 18 years old may submit original prints and drawings in any medium except photography. Works must not have been previously exhibited at the Lee Gallery.

DEADLINE
Completed entries must be POSTMARKED by Tuesday, October 9.

AWARDS

  • 1st Place $750
  • 2nd Place $500
  • 3rd Place $250
Recipients will be selected by the juror and announced at the juror’s talk.

ENTRY FEE
The fee is $30 for up to three entries. Please make checks payable to the Clemson University Center for Visual Arts. The entry fee is nonrefundable.

SALES
All works will be for sale unless otherwise noted on the entry application. A 30% commission will be taken by the Center for Visual Arts upon the sale of work. Return shipment payment will be returned to artists for works sold.

REPRODUCTION RIGHTS
Clemson University reserves the right to use digital images of accepted works in the exhibition catalog, as well as for publicity purposes.

CATALOG
Catalogs will be available for the exhibition and five will be sent to all submitting artists. Additional catalogs may be purchased for $3.00 in advance of delivery.

  • November 26, 2012 Notification cards mailed to applicants
  • January 21, 2013 Deadline for arrival of accepted works
  • February 13, 2013 Exhibit opens at Lee Gallery
  • February 20, 2013 Juror’s lecture about his curatorial projects will take place 6:00 p.m. The awards presentation and exhibit reception will follow.
  • March 13, 2013 Exhibit closes
  • April 1, 2013 Return of work to artists begins

SHIPPING GUIDELINES
Send materials to Clemson Print and Drawing Exhibition, Lee Gallery, Clemson University, G-02A Lee Hall, Box 340510, Clemson, SC 29634-0510. All accepted entries must be shipped in reusable cardboard containers. Artists are responsible for shipping charges to and from the exhibition and insurance coverage while work is in transit to and from the gallery. Return shipping payment must
accompany delivery of the work. Any work arriving without return shipping will not be returned to the artists until payment is received.
