"Where some art presents itself as concepts, process or statements, this residency aims to cultivate art which ultimately is about the artistic product and how it is perceived by our senses - how colours, sounds, shapes, motions, ideas and textures may be structured within time and space to form a composition. Secondly, the residency has a focus on digital tools and media and on helping artists develop ideas and skills for using computer software for working with compositions.

"To support collaboration and the exchange of ideas and knowledge the residency is arranged as an informal workshop where participants can interact freely or choose to retreat if necessary. Our villa on Madeira Island provides the pleasant and tranquil surroundings. To initiate discussions the participants are invited to prepare a small presentation about their work and methods.

"Having a duration of between 2 and 4 weeks, the residency will take place some time later this year (2012) and involve 4 to 7 artists (/engineers/researchers). The exact timing will depend on the artists' availability but we wish to start the residency as soon as possible. If you are interested in joining please let us know about your work and your availability. For more information and updates please connect to us on Facebook (facebook.com/pedrasina).

"We will be hosting two types of residencies:

"1. Fixed subject/social residencies - the aim of which is to bring together people working in related areas to share and develop ideas, possibly start collaborations. The current subject is visual/auditive work which has a strong focus on composition and digital tools and media - read more: htt

"2. Free subject/individual residencies - where artists/engineers/researchers may come to our villa to focus on any kind of personal project and interactions with other residents are more informal/random.

"Our first priority is fixed residencies and when the dates of those are settled we will be open for free residencies. Participation in a fixed residency may be combined with a free subject residency.

"To apply for a residency simply write us a message providing some information about:

"1. The type of residency for which you are applying.

2. Your work and artistic interests - few words + links - and the project you will be working on during your stay.

"3. Your presentation (if joining a fixed residency you are invited to prepare a small presentation about your work and methods).

"4. The dates - period of between 2 and 4 weeks - where you may be able to participate in a fixed subject residency, or the dates where you wish to make a free subject residency - up to 1 or 2 months - and the date by which you would need a confirmation.

"5. Special requirements to be able to perform your work at our villa - equipment, if would you prefer private or shared workspace and/or accommodation, etc.

"We aim to start the first fixed residency in October, but there is no specific application deadline - we will be arranging several residencies this year. As soon as we have the relevant applications the selected applicants will be notified about the dates on which the residency will take place. Applicants will be selected by how well their ideas fit our subjects of interest and by whether we believe that participants can benefit from each others' input.

"The cost to participate in a fixed subject residency is nothing but contributions are welcome. For free subject residencies we would expect some contribution but it's not required. Participants are expected to pay for own transportation and food but arrangements will be made to minimize time spent on necessities.

"If you have any questions feel free to contact us. Our preferred medium of communication is facebook (also for the aplications) but you may also write to the email address provided in the 'About' page."
