Annual National Drawing and Small Sculpture Show CALL FOR ENTRIES

The Annual National Drawing and Small Sculpture Show attracts works by contemporary artists across the country and is judged by a guest juror of national stature. Resulting Purchase Awards have built an impressive Permanent Collection at Del Mar College.

This year’s 46th show runs February 17, 2012 opening reception 6-8 p.m., and closes May 4, 2012. Accepted artwork is displayed in the distinctive Joseph A. Cain Memorial Gallery.

ABOUT THE JUROR
Richard Ash III is the Museum Director at Midwestern State University. “From 1980 to the present, my focus has been on the screen printing process, interrupted by bursts of enthusiasm for other print processes including monotypes, and a strong taste for the relief and intaglio processes. My first memorable art experience as a freshman in art school revolved around seeing an etching being printed. e plate and paper appeared as one thing on the left side of the press, and something else on
the right...magic! Nothing else mattered. After that moment, I was hooked. My current body of prints, begun in 1999, represent a renewed interest in the collaging and layering of imagery. e series is associated with many themes, New Orleans cemeteries, germination, the last patented eggbeater, the drug culture, comic characters, issues of memory, and the beginning and the end of life.”

Prior distinguished guest jurors include Charles Umlauf, George Segal, Frank Gallo, Ivan Karp, Peter Saul, John Chamberlain, James Surls, Luis Jimenez, and Jesus Bautista Morales.
