Call for Proposals: Mobile Art Installation, Lexington, KY

Artists are invited to submit proposals for a mobile art installation that would transform the interior of a 7.5’ x 7.5’ x 16’ PODS container. The installation will travel around the Lexington area making stops in public parks and schools. The installation can explore any theme, but artists are encouraged to make the work interactive and durable for travel. The goal of the touring program is to engage the public with contemporary art in unexpected places. LAL would like artists to submit images of previous work, renderings of the proposed project, and a description of the project. In conjunction with the selected artist, LAL will develop contextual learning materials to accompany the installation, so artists are advised to keep the educational impact in mind when designing the proposal. The selected artist (or collaborative team) will be granted a $500 stipend. The artist is responsible for all travel and material costs and will conduct the installation on site at LAL during the month of May, 2012. Eligibility and Media All artists, age 18 and older, are eligible to submit proposals. All media and styles will be considered. All works must have been completed since 2006 and not previously shown in any LAL gallery. Calendar March 31, 2012 Final postmark deadline to receive entries April 10, 2012 Email notification sent to artists May, 2012 Deadline for delivery of artwork Summer 2012 – Spring 2013 Touring Dates *The conclusion of the tour will be determined based on the work’s durability over time as well as booking schedule. Once the tour is complete, LAL will either dispose of the materials inside the PODS container, or the artist will be responsible for returning to LAL to de-install. At the end of the project, LAL will return the container to PODS Brand Storage Containers of Lexington in the same condition as it was received. Therefore, artists are not permitted to permanently alter the structure. Entry Fee and Procedure There is no entry fee for this project. March 31, 2012 is the postmark deadline.
